Gems of Wisdom

  • Start detailed planning early on so that work can be synchronized from the start.
  • Assign a point person to each subsystem so that work can be accomplished in parallel.
  • Planning ahead for wire management and sturdy pin connections will save you a lot of trouble down the line.
  • Similarly, allocate enough space in your mechanical design for hands to access and rewire any circuitry.
  • Connect your servos to the power supply in a way that won't interfere with important signals. Use capacitors!
  • RGB LED strips are very bright and much easier to organize than arrays of individual RGB LEDs.
  • Expect 3D prints to fail and plan enough time to accommodate those failures.
  • If unsure about any guidelines, ask the teaching team early so you don't have to redo work later on.
  • SPDL is much busier during late afternoons than early mornings.
  • Hot glue is your best friend and worst enemy.
